SRINAGAR: Special police officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday urged the authorities to frame a regular job policy for them also hike their monthly salaries, as the current salary is not “sufficient” to meet the daily expenses.

Talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the SPOs said that their monthly salary of Rs 6000 is not enough to meet the daily expenses and they too have families to feed.

“We attend our duties 24 x 7 without any holidays. We don’t have any medical, risk and other allowances like other officials working in the department have. We don’t have any regular job policy in place as well,” said Sahil, who is working as SPO in J&K police department.

He said that they have been demanding a regular job policy for the last several years and they have brought the issue into the notice of the concerned authorities several times, however, nothing has been done so far.

“The department has made a time-bound job policy in which an SPO who has 3 years of service gets 9,000 as salary per month, who have 5 years of service get 12, 000 while those who have 15 years of service get 18, 000 per month. But how we will survive for 15 years on this meagre salary,” he said adding that the authorities must frame a regular job policy for them.

The SPOs said that they have families to feed and they could not meet the expenses on daily basis on a meagre monthly salary of Rs 6000.

They appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter and help resolve their grievances so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
