JAMMU: The winter capital Jammu recorded the hottest night as the mercury settled at 31.4 degrees Celsius, while the day temperature today were recorded at 40 degrees Celsius after staying below for the past two days, the MeT office said.
From 26.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the minimum temperature jumped to 31.4 degrees Celsius, which is 5.9 degrees above normal, during this part of the season, a spokesperson of the Meteorological (MeT) office said.
Jammu recorded the season’s highest temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius the last night. The maximum temperature, which marked a decline over the past two days, again rose to 40.0 degrees Celsius – 0.6 degrees Celsius above normal, against yesterday’s 38.6 degrees Celsius, the spokesperson said.
On Saturday, the day temperature fell to 39.2 degrees Celsius after hovering above 40 degrees Celsius for the last 12 days with the highest 43.5 degrees Celsius on May 29.
Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including the twin capitals of Jammu and Srinagar, are presently reeling under heat wave.
The day temperature in Srinagar was 34.4 degrees Celsius which is 8.1 degrees Celsius above normal and a low of 15.7 degrees Celsius – 3.2 degrees Celsius above normal during this part of the season, he said.
Srinagar had recorded the season’s highest day temperature of 35 degrees Celsius yesterday.
He said Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Reasi district, recorded a high of 38 degrees Celsius and a low of 27 degrees Celsius.
