Jammu gunfight over; all three militants killed: Army officer

Jammu: The third militant engaged in a firefight with the government forces since early today in Katriyal forests of Jammu has been killed, taking the death toll to three.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), Uniform Force Major General Arvind Bhatia confirmed the killing of three militants.

He said the operation has been called off following the killing of three militants.

Eight forces’ personnel, including an officer, wounded in an ongoing gunfight in the forest area.

An official told Greater Kashmir that SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma, two policemen, and five CRPF personnel were wounded in the gunfight which occurred after militants opened fire on a search party of the forces in Katriyal forests in Reasi district.

They were admitted to the Narayana hospital in Katra.

Three suspected militants who were traveling on a truck slipped into the forests after they were intercepted by the forces near a dhaba yesterday morning.

Soon, a massive search operation was launched and a high alert was sounded in the region.

Today morning, contact was again established with the militants. “Firing is going on from both sides,” said an official.
