Jaish militant killed in brief gunfight in Khrew: Kashmir Police

PAMPORE: A militant was killed in a brief gunfight in Bathin area of Khrew in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, police said.

A police official said that a JeM militant was killed in an shootout with J&K police and 50 RR at Bathin.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said that on a ‘credible input’ about the presence of militants, a swift search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces at Bathien area of Khrew in Awantipora.

“As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militant. The fire was retaliated leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. Consequently, one militant was killed in the exchange of fire,” the spokesperson said.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition AK 47 Rifle and Magazines were recovered from the killed militant. From the incriminating material recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani codenamed as Waseem. He was affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM,” he said.

Police has registered a case in this regard and area is being searched, he added.
