SRINAGAR: Police on Monday said that the investigation being carried out in the rape of three-year-old Sumbal girl will be foolproof and that the people should have faith in them.

DIG north Kashmir, Mohammad Sulieman Choudhary while talking to reporters in Sumbal assured that the investigation being carried out in the case would be foolproof and people should have faith on “us”.

He said that they have already constituted a SIT comprising senior police officials and prosecuting officers and they were collecting the evidences bit by bit.

“The case will be investigated in a professional manner. I also personally visited Sumbal and SSP Bandipora is also stationed in Sumbal from last few days,” he said.

Choudhary said that from past few days protests were held around the neighbouring areas where the incident happened because there was some doubt regarding the age of the accused after the DOB certificate of the accused was issued by a school principal.

“The certificate issed by the school principal and subsequently shared on social media is not authentic. We have taken a separate cognizance of this and principal of the school and others involved in this are being questioned,” he said.

He said when the incident was reported to police on May 08, the accused was immediately arrested and is in police custody. “I appeal people not to indulge in violence,” he said.
