HYDERABAD: The news of a 37-year-old man allegedly stabbed in the United States has sent shock waves in Hyderabad.
According to the family, the incident took place in Georgia on November 1, adding, that the man, Mohammed Arif Mohiuddin, was running a grocery store.
Arif’s Chanchalguda-based family said, that their kin was stabbed to death at Thomaston city’s Crawley Street during broad daylight.
The incident took place on Sunday, and the family learned about it the next day.
Arif’s wife, Mehnaaz Fatima, has sought the intervention of the Indian Government to bring the guilty to justice. In an appeal to the Minister for External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Mehnaaz has requested his help in getting a visa for her, and her father-in-law, Khaja Mohiuddin, to fly down to the US to attend the last rites of her husband.
She further asked the Indian Embassy in Washington, and the Indian consulate in Atlanta to coordinate with the US government to ensure, that the murder is investigated.
Arif has been living in the US for the last 10 years. He visited his family right before the lockdown was imposed due to global pandemic.
Mehnaaz suspects Arif’s business partner to be behind the murder since her husband last spoke to her on November 1.
“He said, that he would reach home in 30 minutes, and speak to me, but he didn’t speak or responded to my calls. Through some friends I came to know, that my husband has been stabbed to death, and the police have shifted his body to a nearby hospital”, she wrote to Jaishankar.
The Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), a local Muslim organisation has urged Telangana cabinet minister K. T. Rama Rao to request the US consulate in Hyderabad to immediately issue visas to the wife and the deceased father.
