Foreign militant involved in killing of two councilors, cop, trapped: IGP Kashmir

SOPORE: An encounter is underway between security forces and militants in Nathipora village of Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said Tuesday.

Officials told news agency that acting on a tip off, joint teams of security forces laid a siege in Nathipora village of Sopore. “As the forces zeroed in on the suspected house, the hiding militants opened fire leading to an encounter,” they said.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar stated that the foreign militant involved in the killing of two councillors and a policeman, is trapped in the ongoing Sopore encounter. On March 29, militants attacked the councilors scheduled meeting at Sopore in which two councillors and a policeman were killed. A police official said that intermittent firing was going on while as surrender offers are also being made to the hiding militants.
