SRINAGAR: The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) has come up as a perfect rehabilitation centre for retired officials, although the same is in contravention to the standing instructions issued by the government in this regard some years back.
Sources said that some of the officials who retired only a week back were re-engaged by the authorities as soon as they superannuated. This means that these officials hardly passed a day at home before being re-engaged.
“At least two officials who retired on April 30 were re-engaged by the authorities at IASE. One among the two was on deputation from the School Education department while as the other one was permanently posted at the Institute,” said sources.
Sources said that the IASE authorities are virtually playing with the job opportunities of the educated, but unemployed youth of the state. They said that instead of advertising the posts the IASE authorities preferred to re-engage the retired officials.
“It is an irony that a person who retired some 15 years back is being reinstated time and again for the reasons best known to the people who issue such out of mind orders. Over the past decade and half, this person has been making merry at the cost of rising graph of unemployment in the state,” said sources.
The IASE is a part of Cluster University Srinagar and formerly it was known as Bachelor of Education (B Ed) College. The accountability has gone for a six at the Institute and it is due to this reason that re-engagement of retired officials is a buzzword there.
Sources said that the concerned stakeholders take the help of local fund and engage the retired officials under this fund. They said the same fund could have been utilized and unemployed youth could have been appointed on the positions held by the re-engaged officials.
“Some 15 years back M S Allaie retired from his services at B Ed College, but the superannuation did not make any difference to him. He was reappointed immediately after his superannuation and he continues to make merry,” said sources.
Sources said that Showkat Afza and Saleem Jehangir retired at the Institute on April 30 this year only to be re-engaged next day. While Showkat was an Assistant Professor, Jehangir was discharging his duties as teacher. He had been deputed from the School Education Department to IASE, Srinagar.
“It is important that the issue is thoroughly probed by the people at the helm so that the process of re-employment and re-engagement is put to rest at the earliest. In the present scenario there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for the educated, unemployed youth of the state,” said sources.
