HRD Minister launches ‘Institution’s Innovation Council’ prog

New Delhi: Union HRD Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar through video conferencing Wednesday launched the ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) programme under Innovation Cell of MHRD at AICTE auditorium in New Delhi.

Ministry of Human Resource Development has established an “Innovation Council” at AICTE with a purpose to systematically foster the culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said it is a significant step in institutionalizing innovation and developing a scientific temperament in the country. He informed that the purpose of formation of a network of Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs) is to
encourage, inspire and nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas and processes, resulting in innovative activities in their formative years.

He also informed that more than 1000 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have already formed IICs in their campuses and enrolled for the IIC network managed by MHRD’s Innovation Cell to promote innovation through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in their campuses.

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has also established IIC, headed by Director Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Prof. N A Nadeem. He along with Associate Professor, Dr Syed Zahoor Geelani, represented the varsity in the programme.

Around 1500 participants representing Central Universities, State Universities, IITs, NITs, Technical Universities, Engineering Colleges, Industry and Private Institutions also participated in the event.

At the end of the function, certificates of registration were distributed among the institutions, which have established their IICs, including the Central University of Kashmir.
