25 drones put in service in Sgr district, we get info on violation of orders in interiors of red zones, congested localities: SSP Sgr Dr Haseeb Mughal
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police has pressed into service at least 25 drones in Srinagar, the summer capital of the Union Territory (UT) to keep a close watch on lockdown violation in times of Covid-19 pandemic which has already claimed six lives and affected over 490 people.
Police said that use of drones is helping them to get area-wise aerial survey with regard to violation of social distancing, unnecessary traffic snarls, unnecessary travel by the people and other violation of lockdown. “We are using 25 drones in Srinagar district. These drones are helping us to keep a close watch on any violation in the lockdown in the district,” senior superintendent of police (SSP), Srinagar Dr Haseeb Mughal told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)
He said that aerial service is helping police to reach the spot within no time whenever there is any violation of lockdown. “Even though police men are deployed at the length and breadth of Srinagar, but at times it becomes difficult to find out violation of lockdown in interior parts of areas. For the areas like downtown where we have cluttered residential structures and lanes and by-lanes, drones help us through images and videos,” the SSP said.
Sources in the police said that drones are actively being used in the 15 Red Zones and also at the important locations where there remain apprehensions of lockdown violation. “Special police teams reach the spot within no time if there is any violation in lockdown. A special technical surveillance team monitors the drones throughout the day,” they told KNO
Sources said that all the drones that fly in air are connected with the Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar and also with the respective police stations for effective monitoring of the lockdown implementation.
“This doesn’t help the police to keep watch on lockdown violation but also for helps smooth deployment of deployment and withdrawal of forces,” said sources. In Srinagar district alone 150 FIRs have been registered alone while as more than 250 people have been booked for defying government orders regarding lockdown.
