Girl injured in Kulgam shootout succumbs

KULGAM: A 14-year-old girl critically injured in a shootout in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday morning succumbed today.

Muskan Jan of Wangud- Qaimoh had slipped into a coma, according to the doctors who operated her at SMHS hospital.

However, she breathed her last today, said her family members.

A police official had said that militants fired several shots at an army camp stationed in a part of Rice Research Institute of Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University’s (SKAUST) campus at Khudwani in the wee hours on Thursday.

“The army soldiers retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. Muskan was unfortunately caught in a crossfire and sustained bullet injury,”  he said.

She was removed to a sub-district hospital in Qaimoh where from she was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
