Forest Department starts public distribution, sale of Conifer plants at Bijbehara

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir South Circle of Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department started the distribution and sale of Conifer plants at Forest Complex, Bijbehara.

The plant Sale Counter was inaugurated by Conservator of Forests, Kashmir South Circle, Bijbehara, Irfan Ali Shah as part of ongoing Green J&K Drive programme with an aim to enhance the tree cover outside forests and for greening of Towns and Peri-Urban areas of South Kashmir.

Addressing the participants, the Conservator highlighted the role of the public for helping the Forest Department to increase the green cover especially outside forests. He informed that thousands of conifer saplings have been put on sale at a subsidized rate of Rs 13.50 per plant across South Kashmir covering all territorial Forest Divisions of the Circle.

The Conservator appealed to the general public to come forward and help the forest department in greening efforts.

On the said occasion, all Divisional Forest Officers of Kashmir South Circle were directed to ensure installation of sale counters at various public places/markets to expedite pace up the greening efforts.

The general public praised the efforts of the Forest Department in making available plants for the public in large numbers in South Kashmir.

Divisional Forest Officers (Territorial), Wildlife Warden (South), Range Officers of Lidder, Awantipora, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag Forest Divisions, forest frontline staff, Chairman local Auqaf Committee and Mosque Committee members participated in the said event.

Locals of the area including Panchayat Representatives, and prominent personalities of the area also participated.
