Rs 1.20 crore provided as financial assistance to registered construction workers in Poonch

POONCH: District Administration Poonch has disbursed over Rs. 1.20 crore @ Rs 1000 each among 12010 active registered construction workers of the district as covid relief for the month of May, 2021.

The financial assistance under COVID relief was provided to the eligible construction workers under the scheme of J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, (JKBOCW).

Deputy Commissioner, Inder Jeet, while informing about the initiative, said that the Government of J&K Union Territory has announced to provide Rs 2000 each to registered construction for two months as an assistance to purchase ration and other household items amid the Covid lockdown. “The first installment of Rs1000/= per worker was disbursed today through DBT mode” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that 12010 eligible workers of the district registered with JKBOCW will be benefited.

Giving details, the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Seyed Abid Hussain said that last year an amount of Rs.2.33 crore was disbursed among  5835 construction workers in four installments of  @ Rs 1000 each. He added that following an aggressive drive during MMP to register construction workers, the figure has now risen to12600.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed the ALC to immediately get the labour card holders of the left-out construction workers renewed so that they also get the benefit of the Government schemes.

He also advised the ALC to follow the  process of release of financial assistance with the Bank authorities so that the workers get some relief.
