Fearing attacks, Kashmiri students heading home urge J&K police to ensure safe journey

SRINAGAR: Fearing attacks by the right wing activists, Kashmiris studying at a university in Rajasthan on Saturday appealed the Jammu and Kashmir Police to ensure their safe journey home.

Received an email from the students Pacific University Udaipur in which they said they fear attacks by the RSS and Shiv Sena groups.

“As we are leaving for our homes, officials from university administration with support from local Police accompanied us up to the railway station. Police personnel are accompanying us up to Mavli station (Udaipur),” the students said.

They appealed to the J&K police to take up the matter with railway police to ensure their safe journey up to Delhi.

“We appeal J&K Police to take up the matter with railway Police so that we safely reach to Delhi or J&K,” the distressed students said.

Greater Kashmir contacted the helpline number set up for Kashmiri students studying in universities outside the state.

“I will inform the railway police and ensure that no student is harmed during their journey to Delhi or Kashmir,” the concerned police official said.

Meanwhile, an official at PCR Kashmir coordinating with outside state said they have taken up the matter with Udaipur Police for safety of Kashmiri students. “There is nothing to worry about.”
