CHANDIGARH: Amid slogans of ‘Raj Karega Khalsa’, actor-turned-actvist Deep Sidhu handed over a ‘kesri’ flag to a man to hoist over Lal Qila on Tuesday afternoon. By hook or by crook, he had been trying to seek this moment for the past several months.
From becoming completely irrelevant and pushed to the peripehry by farmer unions, he again bounced back on Monday, when he was seen campaigning for march on the Outer Ring Road. The position taken by Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee for sticking to original plan of holding parade on Outer Ring Road and another union from extreme Left Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), which is part of 32 farmer organisations gave them the right opportunity.
The complete script of this ‘conspiracy’ was written on Monday evening, when they hijacked the main stage at Singhu and along with gangster-turned-social activist Lakha Sidhana announced to hold the march inside Delhi.
Sources say supported by a few unions secretly, including some from extreme Left from amongst 32 organisations, they were ready with a concrete plan by Tuesday morning. First they started their march much before the offical march of the kisan unions and positioned their ‘henchmen’ in large numbers at a road turning towards central Delhi. From there they directed the tractors towards Red Fort instead of the agreed route. At one point of time, the volunteers of farmer unions tried to intervene but they were outnumbered.
This threat had been forseen by the farmer unions long back. Around a month back, during a meeting of 32 farmer unions, one of the leaders termed Deep Sidhu and Lakha Sidhana as enemy of this struggle.
Ever since the struggle began, the common concern among most of the 32 farmer organisations was that both these men were pushing the struggle towards violent communal path. Deep Sidhu, who was hardly known beyond acting in a handful of B-grade Punjabi films, surprised everybody when last year he raised question over leadership of farmer unions and announced to launch his own ‘morcha’ at Shambu.
Hardly a year back, Sidhu was campaigning to strengthen BJP and proudly posed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was rejected by farmer unions in the state as an “RSS agent”. He acted as the election agent of BJP’s Gurdaspur candidate Sunny Deol too.
The ‘Shambu Morcha’, as he called it, soon started getting live streaming by some pro-Khalistani chanels and Sidhu would often attack the ‘leftist’ leadership of the union. Deep Sidhu would often cite the example of Jews and would motivate people to fight for a ‘Sikh homeland’.
Deep Sidhu had campaigned for BJP’s Sunny Deol during the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
A question that everybody looking for the answer was that how he travelled from from “Hindu Right to Sikh Right”. He himself gave the answer that it was Naxalite-turned-Khalistani Ajmer Singh’s books on Sikh history that changed his perception.The unions openly said that Sidhu is just a frontman of Ajmer Singh.
The farmer unions which had a strong organisational structure pushed them to the periphery. After November 26-27, when the farmer unions reached on the gates of Delhi, Sidhu’s condition became so miserable that in a TV interview he asked people to go back as the ‘Communists’ wanted to use the children as canon fodder. Soon, he was seen backtracking from the statement.
However, he continuously tried to become a part of 32 farmer organisations. Around two weeks back, in a letter sent to the unions, he had even expressed a desire to get associated with their platform.
