DEO Kargil organizes training, demonstration programme on EVM, VVPAT for media persons

KARGIL: As part of the SVEEP activities underway in the district in view of the General Elections 2019, a training programme cum demonstration on EVM and VVPAT for media persons was held today at Conference Hall Baroo, Kargil.

The programme which was held under the overall supervision of the District Election Officer (DEO) Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary was attended by President Press Club Kargil Ladakh and other members of the media fraternity of the district, district officers and the members of the district SVEEP team.

The Deputy Commissioner while underlining the role of media as one of the main stakeholders in the electoral process said that the training and demonstration programme was specially organized to make them aware of the practical voting mechanism through EVMs and VVPATs.

The DC also launched a short film on Voter Education about EVM and VVPAT functioning in vernacular language besides a promo on SVEEP activities currently under progress in the district.

The DC urged the media fraternity to sensitize people about EVM and VVPAT voting mechanism. He also urged them to play a positive role in spreading awareness among the public about the importance of voting so as to strengthen the tradition of democracy.

During the course of training, hands on demonstration was imparted by the Assembly Level Master Trainers (ALMTs) to the media persons and district officers on the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs. Several queries were also raised which were satisfactorily answered by the ALMTs.

The DC urged the media persons to popularize the short film on Voter Education about EVM and VVPAT functioning in vernacular language and promo on SVEEP activities through radio, cable TV as well as the social media platforms so that maximum number of people are enlightened about the practical voting mechanism through EVMs and VVPATs. He also asked the District Nodal Officer SVEEP and members of the media fraternity to make special interviews and talk shows on the importance of voting as well as the practical demonstration of EVMs and VVPATs over Radio and cable TV.

Earlier, the District Nodal Officer SVEEP apprised the DEO about different activities of SVEEP for general voters, new and young voters under Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) as well as EVM and VVPAT demonstration.

Meanwhile, SVEEP activities are presently in full swing across the district during which the ALMTs are imparting hands on training and demonstration EVMs and VVPATs to the general public in all blocks including the far off areas like Drass, Tai Suru and Zanskar.
