DC Ganderbal visits Kangan, reviews availability of essential commodities

GANDERBAL: To assess the ground level situation a raised due to lockdown, the Deputy commissioner Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal today visited various far-flung areas of Kangan Sub-division including Chattergul, Chattergul Bala, Wangat, Ari Kangan and Baba Nagri.

On the occasion, the DC reviewed availability of essential commodities like vegetables, fruits, milk, status of food distribution besides availability of portable water supply and electricity in these areas. He directed the concerned to ensure all the basic facilities are provided to the common masses at their doorsteps so that they do not face any difficulty in their daily life due to lockdown.

ADC Ganderbal Farooq Ahmad Baba, SDM Kangan, AD food and other concerned officials accompanied him.

The Assistant Director food briefed the DC about the availability of essential commodities and distribution of food grains in the Sub-division.

While giving the details, the AD Food informed that Under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) the department distributed 9619.45 quintals of free rice among 42911 families comprising 192389 souls of AAY and PHH ration card holders besides 429.11 quintals of pulses were also distributed (with 5kgs of rice and 1 kg of pulses per households) for the month of April & May.

Similarly, out of 19238.90 quintals of rice to be distributed for the month of May and June under PMGKAY, 11200 quintals are already distributed and distribution process is in full swing.

Also, the department distributed 31200.15 quintals of additional ration for the month of April and May under NFSA and JKFES schemes.

The DC urged him to complete the distribution process at an earliest so that people may not suffer.

Meanwhile, the SDM Kangan was asked to intensify market checking in the Sub-division and ensure rates of essential commodities are maintained as per rate list issued by the FCS&CA department.

On the occasion the DC advised the people for adhering strictly to the SOPs as laid down by the MHA in order to contain the spread of novel covid-19.

Notably, the District Administration has knitted multi prolonged mechanism to ensure smooth distribution chain of essential commodities.

Later, DC inspected augmentation of Receiving station Chinner where he directed the concerned to complete the work within weeks’ time so that overload issues get redressed in the adjoining area.
