DDC B’pora approves mining plan for River Jhelum

BANDIPORA: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad Thursday accorded approval to the mining plan of River Jhelum that has been e-auctioned earlier.

The Approval was granted during the District Mining Plan Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of the DDC.

The meeting discussed threadbare the mining plan for extraction of minerals from identified blocks of Jhelum rivers in the district including upstream Shadipora Hydraulic Station.

The officers of different departments discussed the mining plan and put forward their suggestions and reservations with regard to the extraction so that the work of these respective departments is not affected due to the extraction.

The suggestions are to be incorporated in the mining plan so that the works of several departments and the general public at large is not affected.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC stressed on adopting modern scientific approach for extraction of minerals so that the eco-system of the river is not affected due to extraction  and to make the process sustainable.

He impressed upon the concerned to work proactively to protect rivers from illegal and unscientific excavation.

The meeting was attended by Member Secretary and Deputy Director Geology and Mining, Amarjeet Singh Sodhi, ACD Bandipora (Special Envoy) Abdul Rashid Dass, Ex. Er. Irrigation and Flood Control, District Mineral Officer Bandipora, DYSP Headquarters, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Hajin besides other senior officers.
