SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on Tuesday asked all Medical Superintendents of major hospitals and healthcare facilities of the district to submit the information regarding the issuance of drugs like Remdesivir, Tocilizumab and other COVID related drugs and medicines, twice a week.

The order was issued following after the administration received complaints regarding the improper usage of drugs.

In an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), deputy commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz said that the office has received complaints regarding improper usage of drugs like Remdesivir, Tocilizumab and other COVID related drugs/medicines, many a time without a proper prescription from the authorised medical practitioner.

“Some SOSs have been viral on social media flashing the urgent need of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab. Whereas, such a practice can lead to artificial scarcity of mentioned essential drugs and put the life of patients who are in dire need of such drugs in danger. The District Disaster Management Authority has found it necessary to take cognizance of the concern raised by the public and to ensure that these drugs are provided only after proper prescription from authorised medical practitioner of the hospital only.”

The order stated that all Medical Superintendents of major hospitals and healthcare facilities of district Srinagar shall submit the necessary information twice in a week (every Monday and Thursday) without any failure.
