DC Shopian vows eradication of Malnutrition; making Anganwadi Centres vibrant

SHOPIAN: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the malnutrition issue in the district besides making the Anganwadi Centres most vibrant and useful.

On the occasion, the DC said that the role of field functionaries is very crucial in saturation of ambitious programmes at the grassroots level. He added that the Government is committed to strengthen the roots of health and hygiene to eliminate causes of malnutrition.

The DC directed health functionaries and all other concerned for proper monitoring of the Anganwadi Centres and nutrition being provided to the children. He instructed them to conduct regular field visits to ensure the better healthcare system besides ensuring vaccination and proper sampling.

Vaishya added that any country cannot aim to attain economic and social development goals without addressing the issue of malnutrition.

He said poor nutrition can result in stunted growth, which is associated with impaired cognitive ability and reduced school and work performance among children. Malnutrition in children occurs as a complex interplay among various factors like poverty, maternal health illiteracy, diseases like diarrhea, home environment, dietary practices, hand washing and other hygiene practices, etc.

Among others Additional District Development Commissioner, Shopian, SDM, Zainapora, CMO, CEO, BMOs and other concerned were present in the meeting.
