DC Samba chairs Nacro Coordination Committee meeting

SAMBA: Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma on Saturday chaired a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) District Level Committee here in the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex. The meeting aimed to review the action taken by the concerned departments on decisions made in the previous meeting and formulate an action plan to eradicate the drug menace and narcotic trade in the district.

The meeting was attended by  Superintendent of Police, Benam Tosh; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rakesh Dubey; ACD Sidharath Dhiman; ACR Kusum Chib; Assistant Drug Controller, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Information Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Tehsildar Headquarter, SHOs, and Dy. Commandants from BSF.

During the meeting, the officials discussed different agenda points, including holding of Information Education and Communication activities,   special PTMs in educational institutions, functioning of drug de-addiction centers, working of the control room, and enforcement drives.

 The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to engage youth and social organizations to eradicate the drug menace from every corner of the district.

The DC also stressed the importance of regular inspections and verifications of pharmacy shops by a team headed by Tehsildars, SHOs, and drug controllers against the sale of scheduled drugs without a prescription. The drug controller was directed to ensure that all pharmacy shops are computerized within three months.

The Deputy Commissioner further stressed the importance of playing an active role by the Education Department, heads of Colleges and Schools in spreading awareness about hazards of drugs among students and parents. The DC emphasized that drug abuse is a serious problem in the district, affecting individuals, families, and communities. He reiterated that tackling the issue requires a multi-perspective approach, including deterrence, treatment, and enforcement.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for better coordination among all the line departments, including enforcement agencies, to impose greater deterrence to combat the dangerous trade of drug trafficking.
