DC Kupwara kick-starts plantation drive under convergence

KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din today kick started plantation drive by planting a tree at Mughalpora in Kupwara district.

Regional Director, Social Forestry, Kashmir and other concerned officers were present at the occasion. 

 The DC was informed that 50000 saplings of different species are being planted under convergence programme with MGNREGA across the district during the current plantation season.

Speaking at the occasion, the DC said that large scale plantation is being held in the district during the current plantation season. He said all concerned departments including Forest, Social Forestry and Mulberry have been asked to make a convergence with MGNREGA for successful implementation of plantation drive.

He stressed upon all stakeholders to utilize the barren land where ever available for plantation. He quoted the renowned axiom “Un poshi teli yeli wan poshi”, means ‘food is subservient to forests’, adding that it was the moral duty of every citizen to protect forests and make aforestation.
