BANDIPORA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Thursday distributed modern heavy duty shearing tools among unemployed youth under Tribal Sub Plan.

The DC gave away 21 shearing machines along with generator Sets and other accessories among the youth of Model Cluster Village that include the villages of Arin, Dardpora, Sumlar, Chuntimullah, Surindar and Kudara. The machine units were distributed among tribal youth under the SCA centrally sponsored scheme.

He said the activity will be helpful in livelihood generation as hardly 5 percent of sheep population in the district is machine shorn creating huge employment opportunities in the area.

He said the service that they will provide to the other sheep rearers of the cluster will help them in earning a handsome amount every year.

The DC urged the youth to avail the benefit of several schemes sponsored by the central or UT government to start their income generation units. He said the only solution to fight the unemployment menace is to avail benefit of these welfare schemes and start one’s own income generation units.

He said there are numerous success stories of the people who are running successful businesses by availing benefits of such welfare schemes.

Dr Owais urged the officers to focus on creating awareness at village level among the youngsters about these schemes so that they are benefited. He asked them to involve members of Panchayat Raj Institutions and other focused groups to create awareness.
