CUK’s Urdu deptt holds Husn-e-Na’at competition

Ganderbal: The department of Urdu, Central University of Kashmir (CUK), organised Husn Na’at competition at Nunar campus of the varsity here on Thursday.

Senior National Conference leader Mr. Mian Altaf, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, Dean School of Life Sciences Prof. M Afzal Zargar, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mian Altaf congratulated the University for holding the Na’at competition during the holy Month of Ramadhan. He asked the students to follow the teachings and way of life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in letter and spirit in order to achieve success in this life and hereafter. Mr. Altaf also hailed the University for shifting the administrative staff and majority of the teaching departments to Ganderbal. He assured full support from his party and newly elected Member Parliament, Dr. Farooq Abdullah for the establishment of the institution at designated campus in Tulmulla.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, appreciated the faculty of the Urdu department for organizing the event and complimented the students for evincing keen interest in the Na’at competition. He said the university despite facing several deficiencies on the infrastructural front is regularly holding such activities. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university, despite operating from Old District Hospital and Old Physical Education College Ganderbal, is progressing on academic front.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka while speaking on the occasion, said the department is regularly holding such Na’at competitions, particularly during the holy month of Ramadhan and is giving platform to the students to show their talent.

Dean School of Life Sciences, Prof. M Afzal Zargar appreciated the students for enthralling the audience by reciting beautiful Na’ats.

The judges in the competition included Prof. Jauhar Qudussi, MERC, University of Kashmir, senior faculty member, Mr. Nasir Mirza and Mr. Ghulam Hassan Gamgeen. In the competition, the first prize of Rs. 2000 was bagged by Ms. Shugufta Parveen of the Department of Zoology while as Ms. Tahira Nazir of the department of Biotechnology and Mr. Lateef Hussain from the department of Economics, bagged the second and third prize of Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 respectively.

The dignitaries also released Jahan e Hamd o Na’at written by Prof. Jauhar Qudussi, on the occassion.

The programme proceedings were conducted by Assistant Professor, Dr. Altaf Hussain while as Dr. Nusrat Jabeen proposed the vote of thanks.
