CUK’s Botany, Biotech deptts organise induction progs

GANDERBAL: The departments of Botany and Biotechnology of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised an induction programme for the fresh batch of students.

Department of Biotechnology organized the programme on 19th and 20th of October, aimed at acquinating the newcomers to the university environment, fostering interactions with faculty members, and providing insights into the various resources available.

The newcomers were briefed on the curriculum, syllabus, and other essential aspects of their academic journey. The students interacted with the faculty members who shared valuable insights into the field of biotechnology, providing a glimpse into the exciting academic journey that awaits them.

The students visited CUK campuses and gained a firsthand experience of the varsity’s academic infrastructure. The programme concluded with remarks by the Head of the Department, Prof. Abid Hameed Dar emphasizing the importance of discipline, as a key to success.       

Meanwhile, the Department of Botany also organized the programme for newly admitted M. Sc students. The students visited the laboratories of the Biotechnology and Zoology department.  Dr. Nisar Ahmad and Dr. Owais from Biotechnology deptt and Irfan Noorani from Zoology deptt oriented the students about the instrumentation of their respective laboratories. The students also visited different campuses of the CUK and were oriented about the different resources available with the Central Library. 

The department also organised “lecture by an eminent Professor”, by Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Shah from Deptt of Botany, University of Kashmir, who spoke on “Personifying Plants: Pain Vs Pleasure”. Prof. Manzoor stressed about the journey of Botany for research, which depends on the four pillars i,e  Curiosity, Passion, Problem Solving and Reputation or Reward.

He gave special prominence towards the knowledge, to serve the community for better comforts through application of Botanical Science. Earlier, Prof. Azra N. Kamli stressed on the four aspects of the induction programme (SAGE) meaning Socialising, Associating, Governing and Experiences. Dean School of Life Sciences Prof. M Yousuf gave credit to HVC, Prof. A Ravinder Nath and Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool for successfully implementing the NEP-2020.  He also highlighted the values and scope of Botany subject in general.
