GANDERBAL: The Examination and Evaluation Wing (EEW) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Thursday organised the 8th Post End Semester Examination, workshop on “Assessment, Examination and Evaluation, Introspection and Reforms”, at Green Campus here.
The workshop was organised to enable the university to further improve its overall “Assessment, Examination and Evaluation” process and match the present scenario. The workshop focused on challenges of holding examinations and evaluation thereof, especially during the present scenario wherein pandemic has put the entire nation to undergo a complete lockdown and living with the pandemic has become a “New Normal”.
In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor, Prof, Mehraj ud Din Mir said the main aim and objective of the workshop is introspection viz-a-viz: Paper setting, Evaluation, Supervisor and Tabulator. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university has a transparent examination and evaluation system and has strictly adhered to the academic and examination calendar.
“The university conducted offline examinations of students by establishing examination centres in almost all the districts across the Jammu and Kashmir, following strict Covid-19 protocol” he said adding the results of the students was also declared within the stipulated time.
In his keynote address, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. R D Sharma said, “It is the faculty member who is the best person to introspect and reform accordingly.” “These reforms and innovations are need of an hour particularly in Covid-19 era,” he said. He however added that there is no substitute to offline teaching and learning methods and examinations.
In his presidential address, former Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala, Prof. P.K Radhakrishnan spoke about the situation created by Covid-19 and the changes required in the evaluation process. He suggested that students from science background and non-science can be given different treatment while conducting examinations. He also supported MCQ type of evaluation as the result can be declared on time.
In his special address, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, emphasized on the fact that it is a time to move from content based to competency based evaluation. He added that NEP-2020 encourages holistic development of a student which have to stand from school education itself
In her welcome address, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Parveen Pandit apprised about the activities of EEW particularly in the time of Covid-19 which included: Conduct of ESE for terminal semester while maintaining Covid-19 protocol and SOPs. She said the examination was taken to the doorsteps of the students and results were declared on time. She said the workshop would identify the strengths and weaknesses of the entire examination process.
Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators, faculty members of departments attended the workshop. Er. Zahoor Ahmad Najar, Officer on Special Duty EEW presented the vote of thanks.
