SRINAGAR: The summer capital of J&K was being considered as center of attraction, but people in general have forget the future consequences of pollution and authorities in particular have failed in controlling the construction of illegal structures that have been increasingly erected with each passing day.

Sources said, few days back people in general have observed that SMC took demolition drive in Srinagar, and the department concerned has remained mute spectators when people raised illegal structures in and around Srinagar.

“In order to raise Srinagar within the city or at its adjacent areas is not an easy thing for a common man, when they knew that they have to get the building permissions from the concerned departments like SMC, MC, Revenue and others,” said sources.

They said that despite there is a ban from High Court on illegal construction in Srinagar and other districts of valley, but people are hardly bothered about its consequences.

“During the recent past, the brave revenue officer of Budgam district demolished the illegal structure that was raised by some of the former top influential officers, but she took a stand and that was appreciated by all quarters,” said sources while hinting towards a lady revenue officer.

Sources said that irony of the fact is that, either the honest officers or officials gets influenced or transferred from the area where they are working, because there work goes against the will of some corrupt people in society.

Same is the case of Srinagar city, hundreds of small and large scale buildings have come up in posh colonies, but the government has remained mute spectators over the issues when they are themselves aware that their relatives, friends are involved in land grabbing, sources alleges.

“There is no district in Kashmir valley, where the encroachers have not grabbed the illegal occupation of state land and nobody dears to touch them because they have such an influence that they can go to any extent, sources informed.

Sources said that the reality cannot be denied that, there are people who make laws and then enforce them on masses and they tatter the law for themselves at the same time they claims like anything about the accountability and transparency in the system.

“One needs an iron hand to dealt with wrong things, despite knowing who is who, only then some robust changes could come, otherwise we know that Kashmir will be bad to worse in terms of encroachment, land grabbing as it is only the people who are and will be held responsible for all this mess in near future,” sources opined.

“We must appreciate the governor and his team of advisers the way they are working for the betterment of people in Kashmir with related to the developments, adding that at the same time the government is requested to take some harsh steps against the officers and officials under whose noose the illegal structures are being erected across Kashmir valley, and should punish the violators so that thing will remain under control,” sources told Street Times.
