NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a commandant of the Border Security Force on Tuesday on charges of helping smuggle cattle along Indo-Bangladesh border, officials said.

A source had said earlier in the day that he had been arrested after he came in for a marathon questioning session.

“Satish Kumar has been arrested. He will be produced before a court tomorrow,” the CBI source had said.

The development comes almost two months after the agency registered an FIR against former BSF Commandant Satish Kumar, a former commandant of the 36 BSF Battalion, and three others in connection with a cattle smuggling case on the India-Bangladesh border.

The CBI had also conducted raids at 13 locations in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Chhattisgarh in September.
