PULWAMA: Clashes erupted after the government forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Arihal village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.

A witness said that youth took to streets and clashed with the forces after the CASO was launched on Thursday evening.

He said the forces lobbed tear gas shells after a group of local pelted them with stones to disrupt the anti-militant operation.

An official said the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have jointly launched the operation.

He said the search operation was launched after “specific inputs” about the presence of militants there.

The operation was on when this report was being filed.
