CBI arrests senior Passport Assistant at Jammu in bribery case

JAMMU: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said that it has arrested a Senior Passport Assistant, Regional Passport Office (RPO) Jammu for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000/- from the complainant.

According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), officials said that a case was registered on a complaint alleging that the Senior Passport Assistant, Regional Passport Office, Jammu has demanded a bribe for issuance of passport of the complainant.

It was alleged that the complainant had applied for issuance of Passport in the month of January, 2020 and contacted the Regional Passport Office, Jammu. It was further alleged that the complainant was informed that an FIR has been registered against him and due to this, issuance of passport was pending, the statement said, adding that the complainant further informed that he has been acquitted in the said FIR.  “Thereafter, the complainant visited the Passport Office, Jammu and met the Senior Passport Assistant.  The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.5000/- for issuing passport and agreed to accept Rs.4000/- after negotiation.”

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000/-.  Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused at Jammu & Lucknow, the statement said.

“The accused is being produced today before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jammu,” CBI said.
