Budgam gunfight day 5: Slain militant’s body recovered from Sukhnag Nallah

BUDGAM: Five days after the exchange of fire took place between security forces and militants in Budgam district, the forces on Friday morning recovered the body of slain militant from Sukhnag Nallah of the district where search operation was going on from the last five days to find out the body.

Officials told the news—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that security forces recovered the militant’s body who drowned after the brief exchange of fire on Monday afternoon, from Sukhnag Nallah at Kawoosa area of the district.

Five days ago, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kawoosa area of Narbal on Monday afternoon based on a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter. It was believed that one of the militants while fleeing had jumped into the Nallah.

Security officials said that boats were pressed into service to trace the body in the nallah and on Thursday some ammunition was recovered by the Army’s divers from the Nallah.

“Today morning, militant’s body was fished out,” officials said, adding that the slain militant has been identified as Aqib Lone of Aglar, Pulwama who had joined militant ranks recently.
