Chandigarh: The Haryana government has extended the ban on mobile Internet services in Karnal till Thursday midnight.

The farmers have been protesting outside the mini secretariat here and are in for the long haul after various rounds of their talks with the district administration failed.

They have pitched tents and intend to protest outside the mini secretariat till their demands are met.

They held a kisan mahapanchayat at the grain market on Tuesday and later laid siege to the mini secretariat.

They are led by farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait, Yogendra Yadav and Gurnam Singh Charuni.

The farmers’ dharna outside the mini secretariat entered its third day on Thursday. Farmers spent the night on roads and in parks. The farmers who erected tents outside the mini secretariat on Wednesday have also installed fans there.

On Thursday morning, the crowd was thin, but the farmer leaders say more farmers from surrounding districts and states will join the protest later in the day.

The talks, which remained inconclusive, are likely to resume on Thursday. Farmer leaders are adamant on the suspension of IAS officer Ayush Sinha and the registration of a case against him, but the administration said no action could be taken without investigating the matter.

Locals provided eatables to the farmers. In the morning, a couple of families reached the protesting site with fruits, juice and other eatables.
