PULWAMA: Under CSIR, Floriculture Mission, the Vice Principal Govt Degree College Womens Pulwama, HOD Botany GDC Womens Baramulla, officers and Scientists, progressive farmers, students and faculty from various Schools/ Colleges from Kashmir Division today attended the awareness and distribution programme, here.
The CSIR, GOI has launched Floriculture Mission pan India for promotion of Commercial Floriculture and CSIR IIIM Jammu is implementing it in J&K. One of the verticals in the Mission involves Development of floriculture gardens in schools and colleges.
Dr. Shahid emphasized the importance of commercial cultivation and product development of high-value medicinal and aromatic crops in the region due to their demand in the national and international flavor, fragrance, and phyto-pharmaceutical trade.
He informed that the successful implementation of the Aroma Mission, harnessing the production potential of the huge under-utilised land tracts and varied agro-climatic conditions can bring a transformative change in the industrial agrarian situation in the country and UT.
“Different aromatic crops like Lavender and Rosemary can be judiciously integrated with horticultural production systems for increased net returns per unit area and time,” he said.
Dr Iqra gave an overview about the Awareness programme and the role of CSIR-IIIM in development and dissemination of the technologies on cultivation and post harvest handling of commercially important floricultural crops.
Speaking at the event Vice Principal GDC Womens Pulwama appreciated the Scientists of CSIR for their perseverant efforts in development and dissemination of technologies for farmer benefit.
Dr Mehraj presented a vote of thanks on the occasion.
Later, quality planting material of different ornamental species was distributed at CSIR-IIIM Field Station Pulwama among the concerned schools and colleges under CSIR Floriculture Mission.
