SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while expressing concern over the killing and arresting of youth during Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) and the fresh wave of “crackdown” on the resistance leaders said that “J&K is being deliberately converted into a police state where all rights of people are muzzled.

Mirwaiz said this soon after chairing the meeting of Hurriyat’s executive, general council and working committee meeting at the amalgam’s Rajbagh headquarters in Srinagar.

Talking to reporters, Mirwaiz said that the situation in Kashmir is very sensitive and the meeting discussed the prevailing situation threadbare.

“All the participants expressed strong concern and resentment over the killing and arresting youth during CASOs, especially in the southern Kashmir and termed it as unacceptable,” he said.

The Mirwaiz said that entire Kashmir is being drenched in the blood of youth on one hand and one the other, police along with paramilitary forces are raiding the residences of resistance leaders and arresting them.

“It seems that a massive crackdown has been launched on the resistance leadership ahead of the so-called Local Bodies and Panchayat polls,” he said.

Mirwaiz also welcomed the recent statement of United Nations Human Rights Council Chief Michelle Bachelet in which she criticised the New Delhi for not acting on its report. “It was high time for the UN body to work towards implementing the resolutions pending before the very forum regarding Kashmir dispute,” said Mirwaiz.
