January-February domestic air traffic records 38% decline

NEW DELHI: Passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan-Feb 2021 were 155.61 lakh as against 251.5 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering annual decline of 38.13 per cent, according to the latest data released by civil aviation regulator DGCA.

Aviation regulator in its report said nearly 78.27 lakh domestic passengers travelled by air in February 2021, which is 36.71 per cent lower than the corresponding period last year. As many as 77.34 lakh people travelled in domestic flights in January this year.

The occupancy rate or load factor of the six major Indian airlines was between 67.9 per cent and 78.9 per cent in February, the DGCA said. “The passenger load factor in February showed increasing trend compared to the previous month primarily due to beginning of tourist season,” it added.
