NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways said it would run 80 more special trains to from September 12—a development that comes as the central government begins to look easing some more restrictions on public transportation.

These new trains will be in addition to the 230 that are currently being run, chairman of the railway board VK Yadav said on Saturday.

Bookings for these will open on September 10.

“We will monitor special trains and run a clone train whenever the need arises,” Yadav said.

The decision comes as the government looks at easing some more restriction on movement imposed in March as COVID-19 cases spiralled in the country. The central government has already announced it would restore metro services on September 7.

The central government has been gradually easing restrictions over the past few months—first partially restoring train and domestic flight services three months ago, and then announcing the metro services will resume from September 7.
