5 back-to-back earthquakes jolt, J&K, Ladakh within one hour

SRINAGAR: In a span of just one hour, Jammu and Kashmir felt back-to-back tremors on Monday afternoon as five earthquakes jolted the Union Territory and Ladakh parts as well.

Details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reveals that the five earthquakes with different epicentres have jolted Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh from 3:48 PM to 4:44 PM this afternoon.

However, no reports of damage were received from anywhere till the report was last filed.

Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad while sharing the details said that five earthquakes have jolted J&K and Ladakh within a span of just one hour. The five earthquakes had two epicentres including Zanskar, Kargil and Kishtwar, J&K.

The first earthquake of 5.5 magnitude occurred at 03:48 PM and its origin was in Zanskar, Kargil. The tremors were felt across Jammu and Kashmir. The second earthquake measuring 3.8 magnitudes occurred at 03:57 PM with the same origin.

Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed back-to-back earthquakes within a span of just 18 minutes at 4.8 and 3.6 magnitudes respectively. The two earthquakes occurred at 4:01 PM and 4:18 PM respectively.

According to the details, the fifth earthquake of 3.4 magnitude hit J&K and Ladakh areas while its origin was in Zanskar, Kargil. The earthquake occurred at 04:44 PM.

However, no loss of life and injury was reported from anywhere till the report was last filed.
