3 Militants Killed in Sopore Encounter

Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter in the Pethseer area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

Officials said that the encounter started in Sopore’s Pathseer area after a cordon and search operation was conducted by a joint team of Sopore Police, 52RR and CRPF. 

The encounter started in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and one of the militants was killed in the immediate action. However, the firing started in the morning of Tuesday again in the area and later two other militants were killed in the gun fight, which took the total toll to three. 

However, the trio slain, after the encounter, have been identified by officials as Faisal Fayaz, resident of Kapren Shopian; Gh Mustafa Sheikh, a resident of Tekipura Kupwara and Rameez Ah Ghanie, a resident of Zipor Dharamati, Shopian, affiliated with militant outfit LeT (TRF), as per official statement. 

Moreover, officials also said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.

The encounter came after two militants, Abbas Sheikh and Saqib Manzoor, were killed in Aloochi Bagh area falling in the vicinity of Batamaloo, Srinagar.  

After the Sopore encounter, police quoted IGP-K Vijay Kumar saying that more than 100 militants have been killed in the year of 2021 so far in Kashmir division.
