‘Authorities still seeking state subject from us’

JAMMU:  West Pakistan refugees on Thursday staged a protest in Jammu and alleged that authorities still call for state subject for government jobs.

Hundreds of West Pakistan refugees appeared at press Club Jammu and raised slogans against authorities for denying them government jobs on the pretext of state subject certificate.

Lamba Ram Gandhi Leader of the West Pakistan refugees while talking with media said that despite the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A 18 months, authorities are still demanding state subject certificate from them.

“When authorities had said that there is no need for state subjects and domicile certificate was issued in our favour, then why we are still being harassed on the name of state subject,” Gandhi said.

“Our boys qualified written exams and were declared fit in recent police recruitment, however, on submitting documents they were not allowed to join as authorities ask them for state subjects, he said

Protesting people also said that to avail benefit under Ladli Beti Scheme, authorities call for state subject.

“What was the fun of scrapping article 370 and 35 A if we won’t get any benefit,” they said

The protesters appealed authorities to look into the matter at earliest.

Presently, the number of West Pakistan refugees is over 20,000 families or 4 lakh persons.

After the scrapping of article 370 and 35 A, they are allowed to purchase land and apply for jobs in J&K besides that they can also contest elections. They were also allowed to apply for government jobs as well.
