World Mental Health Day observed at GMC Doda

DODA: Government Medical College (GMC) Doda organised awareness activities to observe World Mental Health Day in line with this year’s theme — “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” The event was organised by the Department of Community Medicine to highlight the importance of ensuring access to mental health services, particularly during crises and emergencies.

The programme was held under the guidance of the Medical College Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and under the supervision of Head of Department Community Medicine Dr. Suresh K. Kotwal.

Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine Dr. Walied K Balwan addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights on various aspects of mental health encountered in day-to-day life. He discussed the psychological impact of stressful situations and emphasised the importance of resilience, empathy and timely support.

The session was hosted by Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine Dr. Imran Zaffer, who briefly introduced the theme and highlighted the objectives of the observance.

The MBBS pre-final year students, Sarosh and Mitali delivered an informative presentation on mental health, focusing on coping mechanisms and the significance of accessible services. A poster presentation was also organised, where students creatively depicted themes related to mental health awareness and the role of healthcare professionals in supporting affected individuals.
