SRINAGAR: The three months long winter vacation has come to an end and the schools in the Valley will reopen on Monday.

On Sunday, the markets in Srinagar’s commercial hub Lal Chowk saw a rush of students and parents, who were shopping for uniforms and buying books ahead of the reopening of schools.

The schools were closed for the winter vacation in December last year. Due to the rush in the markets, there were frequent traffic jams.

Earlier, the schools were scheduled to reopen on March 1 but their reopening was delayed due to bad weather and the situation following the Pulwama attack. As the weather has seen a change, the students are eagerly waiting to attend classes.

“We are excited to go to school after a long break. We want to complete our syllabus on time,” said Sheeba Irshad, a student of Class IX. The teachers in all private and government schools were asked to report on duty on March 9 to prepare for the classes.

“The reopening of schools should not have been delayed as it affects the academic calendar. We hope the situation is peaceful this summer and the studies go on smoothly,” said Shaista Mehmood, a teacher.
