Violent protests erupt in Sopore against militant’s killing

SOPORE: Security forces on Friday fired scores of teargas shells to disperse protesters who took to the streets at a model town in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district against the killing of a local militant.

Reports said that group of youth appeared at a model town in Sopore, native locality of the slain militant, and pelted the forces with stones.

They said the forces responded by lobbing scores of teargas shells.

Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, son of Mushtaq Ahmad of Model Town Sopore, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Amshipora village of Shopian early today.
