NUR-SULTAN: The ruling party of Kazakhstan Nur Otan held an extraordinary congress in which it put forward the candidacy of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the post of President in the national election which will take place on 9 June 2019.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, chairman of the Nur Otan party, proposed the candidacy to delegates of all levels – members of the political council, veterans of the party, representatives of regional branches, primary party organisations and activists of the “Zhas Otan” youth wing.
“As the chairman of the Nur Otan party, I submit for the consideration of the congress the question of the nomination of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the post of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I have known him for many years as we worked together and I consider him as the most worthy candidate for this position in the country today,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The congress unanimously supported the initiative to nominate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as a presidential candidate.Mr Tokayev is the incumbent President of Kazakhstan.
He announced the early presidential elections on 9 June in a televised address in early April.Candidates for the post of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan can be nominated up to 28 April.
Mr Sadybek Tugel, nominated from the “Uly Dary Kyryndary” republican organisation, was the first to submit his documents to the Central Election Commission on 22 April.
