Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar Shahid Choudhary on Wednesday claimed that the much hyped Srinagar Metro train project will be completed in four years.
Taking to his Twitter handle Choudhary said that the project is 100 percent externally funded and will have 24 stations,”Srinagar Metro. 100% externally funded project. Completion in 4 years from commencement. 24 stations. Preliminary survey done.” He tweeted.
The Rs 15881 crore Srinagar Metro Project, allotted to RITES, was scheduled to commence from April 1, 2017. The agency was supposed to submit the complete draft detailed project report (DPR) by September 2017.
However, the project hit a roadblock as RITES had failed to furnish a proposal for remaining activities, delaying the process of crucial governmental approvals.Earlier, it was reported the proposed corridor-I for Srinagar is proposed to start from HMT Junction and culminate at Pampore Bus Stand with Batmaloo, LalChowk, BadamiBagh and PanthaChowk as important destinations in between and corridor-II is accordingly proposed to start from Usmanabad to Airport with Soura, Jama Masjid, RamBagh as important station in between.
The third corridor in Srinagar city is proposed to start from MunshiBagh to Batapora. A total of 16 halting stations are planned in the corridor-I, 19 in corridor-II and 10 in corridor-II at an average distance of 1 Km.
It was informed that the metro coaches proposed are modern light weight, stainless steel and aluminum body and are with air conditioning system. The coach size would be 21.64 m X 2.9 m X 3.9 m.
The proposed running services of Jammu will be 17 hours a day whereas running services of Srinagar will be 17 hours per day and 14 hours per day in summers and winters respectively.
