Bandipora: Director General of police, Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbagh Singh on Saturday claimed that the police have got some leads over the connections of the Special Police officer (SPO) who fled with seven rifles from the official residence of PDP legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir.

Singh said that the SPO had come in contact with the militants and that the police are working on many leads.

Last night, police said a Special Police Officer Adil Bashir posted with the MLA fled with at least eight weapons, including the licensed pistol of the legislator, from his official residence in Srinagar.

While talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Bandipora, Singh said that stringent action is being taken against those whose “irresponsibility” led to the incident. “Those who have not done their duty with responsibility will be dealt with strictly,” he added.

On being asked whether the legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir would be quizzed by the police, DGP said: “I cannot say anything regarding this as of now but if the need arises during the investigation of the case anyone would be questioned.”

He also said that there is nothing to worry about the elections as everything was going on “smoothly and civil administration is also doing their job efficiently.”
