Pulwama: Suspected militants on Tuesday shot dead a special police officer (SPO) in Hanjan Payeen area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Quoting sources, news agency GNS reported that gunmen fired upon Sameer Ahmad Mir son of Wali Mohammad Mir at his home this evening.
Mir, a resident of Hanjan Payeen village suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to a nearby district hospital where he succumbed to injuries, said the report.
A senior police officer also confirmed the incident to GNS.
“Sameer was fired upon by the suspected militants at his home. He was working as an SPO,” he said.
Meanwhile, Army, Special Operations Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
