Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, (SKIMS) Srinagar celebrates its 39th Annual Day today on 5th December, 2020 at SKICC Chasmahahi. Shri Manoj Sinha, The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman Governing Body SKIMS, addressed the audience as Chief Guest on the occasion. He appreciated SKIMS administration for their huge contribution in healthcare services in J&K particularly their role in COVID-19 pandemic besides unrelentless non-Covid care for all the four decades of history since 1982. Shri Manoj Sinha, felicitated this year’s Sher-I-Kashmir Orator, Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, New Delhi and Life Time Achievement Awardees. Hon’ble Governor also e-inaugurated various projects of SKIMS included; College of Paramedical Sciences, Advanced Paediatric Center, Thousand seated Auditorium, Construction of Library Block, Neurosciences ICU dedicated to patients, Pulmonary ICU at Infectious Disease Block, Obstetrics & Gyaenacology ICU dedicated to patients, Geriatric Medicine Ward dedicated to patients, Separate OPD Block, New CSSD, SCI OPD Complex, Waiting Hall Emergency Medicine, Extension of staff canteen, Extension of Blood Center & OPD Public Covenience.Hon’ble Advisor Shri Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar who was Guest of Honour on the occasion felicitated COVID warriors for exemplary services during ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Shri Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar Advisor to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K, in his address lauded Director SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary Dr. A. G Ahangar led team of Medical Faculty & all healthcare workers of SKIMS for their immense contribution & services to the people of Jammu & Kashmir during COVID-19 pandemic and otherwise. He said SKIMS is always there in the forefront in serving people of J&K and beyond through its best human resource.Director SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt. A.G. Ahangar, while presenting the Director’s report highlighted the role of SKIMS in fulfilling the aspirations of the people and expanding its horizons all over the globe. He expressed his gratitude to all the employees of SKIMS including Faculty, Residents, Nurses, Supportive & Paramedical staff for holding the flag of SKIMS high through their countless services towards patient care during ongoing pandemic. He reiterated his commitment to make SKIMS a dream Institution that has evolved over the years and brought in diversification in the field of medicine, surgery & allied services and its horizons in Academics and Research of highest order. He outlined his dream Projects and initiatives at SKIMS ever since he took over as Director of this Prestigious Institution in 2016 and unfolded the Mission of its futuristic plans of 2025 & 2030, Time frame for realising the dreams of modern Medicine at this Medical University despite the roadblocks and distractions created by the Political Nepotism and Sabotage. He, however, expressed his hope for the Bright Future of the Institute as well as his “Mission Medicine Sans Politics” in Kashmir. Former Director & Chairman Apex Advisory Committee COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. M.S Khuroo in his address gave a detailed account of policy decisions & major initiatives taken by the committee in managing COVID-19 pandemic in UT, J&K. Dean of Medical Faculty Dr Omar J Shah highlighted the academic and research activities of SKIMS in their addresses. Those who were present on the occasion included former Directors and Deans of SKIMS, faculty of SKIMS, SKIMSMC Bemina. Besides a large number of medical and paramedical staff, and key functionaries of SKIMS and the administration attended the function.This year Prof. Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, New Delhi, presented the Prestigious “Sher-i-Kashmir Oration”. He outlined the Covid-19 Pandemic scenario at Global level and the way forward. This added to the Glory of the event this year.Later at the event various employees were felicitated for their exemplary services in their respective fields. Also on the occasion SKIMS Magazine & Annual Report was released. This year the Life Time Achievement Award was given to Director Skims Dr. A.G Ahangar. Special award was given to Dean Medical Faculty Dr.Omar Javed Shah for his distinguished services. Prof. Tabassum Pervez, the Organising Chairperson of the event, welcomed the guests while the organising secretary, Dr. Cimona Lyn Saldanha, conducted the proceedings and concluded the program with vote of thanks.
