Shopian gunfight ends, two militant bodies recovered; searches on

SHOPIAN: The seven-hour-long gunfight in southern Shopian district ended on Friday afternoon with the killing of both the trapped militants.

The gunfight had erupted on wee hours of Friday in Gadapora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

An official said that the gunfight has ended and the bodies of both the militants have been recovered.

He said that searches are still going on at the site of the gunfight.

He said that the identification of both the militants is being ascertained.

A policeman was also injured after being hit by a stone during clashes in adjoining Ratnipora village of the district. The policeman was identified as Tariq Ahmad.

At least ten youth were injured in the clashes that broke out soon after the gunfight began in Gadapora village. While nine youth had suffered pellet injuries one of them had been shot in the neck.
