Shab-i-Qadr observed in Kashmir with religious fervor, gaiety

Srinagar: The holy night of ‘Shab-i-Qadr’ was observed with religious fervor and gaiety across Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where lakhs of people joined special night-long prayers in mosques and other religious places.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, Vice President Omar Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehboob Mufti, other political, social and religious leaders greeted people on the occasion.

People thronged mosques, Jamia Masjids, Khankhas, shrines and other religious places to join the special prayers during the intervening night of 26 and 27 of holy month of Ramazan.

However, the main congregation was held at Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad.

Thousands of people from different parts of Kashmir valley joined the night-long prayers. The authorities had made all arrangements, including water, power, medical, transport and security for the devotees. A number of NGOs and departments had established stalls for the devotees. Private transporters plied service from different parts of the valley for the devotees, including women and children.

The similar congregation was also organised at historic Jamia Masjid in the downtown, where thousands of people joined the night-long prayers, including ‘Taraweeha’. Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq addressed congregation.

Big night-long congregations were also held at the shrine of Hazrat Gousal Azam Dastigeer Khanyar and Saraibala, Khankahi Moula, Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Wali at Charar-e-Shareif, Hazrat Mehboob-ul-Aalam, Hazrat Syed Sahib Sonawar, Sheikh Dawood Batmaloo, Asar-e-Sharief Kalashpora, Pinjoora and other religious place.
