Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals and Role of India: Mission 2030 held at IUST

AWANTIPORA: Islamic University of Science and Technology organized a one-day seminar on Sustainable Development Goals and the Role of India: Mission 2030 today August 11, 2022. The seminar was attended by Deans of Schools, Heads of departments, faculty members, and students.

The event was organized by the Dean of Students as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The
main speakers of the seminar included Prof. Naseer Iqbal (Registrar, IUST), Dr. Anisa Jan
(Dean Students, IUST), and Dr. Syed Irfan (Faculty, Department of Management Studies,
IUST).

Prof. Naseer Iqbal underscored the practical implementation of the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) by students at all possible levels. He further said that IUST encourages research on SDGs and motivated participants to come up with innovative ideas for social
development. Highlighting the relevance of such programs, Dr. Anisa said, “The achievement
of UN SDGs is a collective responsibility of every citizen. Universities, being the highest seat
of learning, have a major role to play in mentoring the society to achieve this mission”. In his
detailed presentation, Dr. Irfan said “Mission 2030 depends on the social and economic
environment of a nation and to achieve the desired objectives for the same, Universities
through their research/academics have a huge role to play”. A brainstorming session on “How India can achieve the targets set by UN SDGs by 2030’ remained the highlight of the event.
